Famous First Facts (JACOB BLANCK'S COPY)

Famous First Facts (JACOB BLANCK'S COPY)

New York: H.W. Wilson Company, 1950. First Edition. 4to (26 x 17cm). 888pp. Red cloth covers, spine fading, black titles to upper and spine. Inscribed by author to Blanck on the front free endpaper: "To Jacob Blanck / "FIRST IN BIBLIOGRAPHY" // Sincerely // Joseph Nathan Kane". Bookplate (3 x 2cm) of Blanck to paste-down endpaper. An errata slip regarding the first Air Mail ever flown has been typed on a separate slip of paper and is affixed at the left margin of page 15, presumably by Jacob Blank, stating that the "fact" provided in the text lacks authenticity). The slip shows some typewriter key damage. Another slip regarding the first use of the Dollar sign appears to have been clipped from another publication and is affixed to the left margin of page 167 -- the slip provides further information on the matter and contains a short note in pencil -- also presumably by Blanck. The entry for "lithograph" on page 264 has beside it an "o" added in pencil to refer to a note in the bottom margin reading "o ? See DAB" with "DAB" underscored. Yet another original slip of typed paper regarding wood pulp paper is affixed to the inner margin of page 329 and is dated "(March 14, 1961)". On page 484 a pencil note has been added with respect to the entry for "Woman newspaper editor" stating: "See Brigham / Journals & Journeymen - P. 74". Page 535 (part of the volume's Index by Years) shows seven pencil marks in the right margin adjacent to entries appearing there. Rest of text block unmarked, rear joint webbing exposed. Very good.
